See How They Run (2022)

Dir. by Tom George

Cast: Sam Rockwell, Saoirse Ronan, Adrien Brody, Reece Shearsmith, Harris Dickinson, Ruth Wilson

This was certainly made for fans of Wes Anderson, which I most certainly am. A classic whodunit, but with more of a self-aware touch and some decently entertaining comedy, this film provides everything that it sets out to be, but nothing more in my opinion. Nothing about this film truly blew me away, but Adrien Brody and Saoirse Ronan were very good casting choices because they turn everything into gold. I can’t really articulate what I like about this film very well, it was just a nice flick to watch when I had a headache and didn’t want anything too crazy. I think the plot gets a little questionable and uncertain sometimes, in a way that makes you think that something is a strange coincidence. And then you move on because the story moves on. It is definitely not a movie that I will think about for months to pass, but it is at least trying to be original, and not produced by Disney. Oh wait. Disney owns Searchlight. Damn. Oh well. At least it is a first time film director who makes a fantastic effort at twisting up the classic genre. It is very self-aware, witty, and fun if you don’t critique the small plot holes. I really enjoyed the historical context as well. Was definitely not expecting to see Richard Attenborough and Agatha Christie. All in all, a fun time with some great actors (although Sam Rockwell could have had more to work with). I will continue to put some new movie reviews on here, but I have yet to hear any feedback on what people want to see me review. I would absolutely love some comments or requests. I am open to watching anything. I love film.

  1. Nice review – pretty much exactly how I felt about it too.

Re: other reviews – I’ve really enjoyed your list of 10s from different countries! I’d love to see a French or Italian one too. Or if it’s just individual film reviews, I’d love to see your thoughts on movies by some of my favourite directors (Contempt by Jean-Luc Godard, or Bicycle Thieves by Vittorio De Sica would be really interesting!)

    • Thanks for the recommendations! I will get right on it. I need to watch some more French and Italian films to get a good list because as of now I haven’t seen enough. But I really appreciate the engagement!
